Political guidance: Hebrews 12:1

At the height of campaign season, the verse of the day from my Bible iPhone app rings true more than ever.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us…

From the ongoing “war on women” shenanigans and developments in the Trayvon Martin case to the Texas Senate debate last night and more, it seems like it’s been an especially eventful – and frustrating – week. It’s easy to get caught up in the, well, politics of everything. Some choose to favor their career or their image; others are true servant leaders and recognize the path they should follow. They do not give up and do not give in. They fight, with tooth and nail if they have to, for our liberties and policies that will make this country and this state a better place.

Whether it’s an actual race, a political one, or any other challenge that arises – and whether you are an elected official, candidate, advocate, or just someone speaking out on the sidelines – remember: You are being watched, both by us and by God. Will you overcome your challenges and throw off sin to fight for what is right?
